U-Pick: Dress for the ENVIRONMENT!

A big part of a positive farm experience is being properly prepared for the weather. Don't forget your sun hat, sun screen, gloves, suitable footwear, mosquito protection and drinking water!

South Windermere Gardens is a commercial, operating farm. Please exercise caution in all your activities when visiting.

Flips flops, sandals or other opened toe footwear are not appropriate footwear on a farm. Such footwear can expose your feet to soil, straw, small stones and other discomforting hazards commonly found on farms.

Please leave your pets at home.

Wash your berries before using or eating them by placing them in a sink full of of cold water. They'll float! After no more than 5 minutes scoop the berries out by hand and drain them in a colander or on a towel.  Very ripe strawberries are quite delicate, you should plan on using them within 3 days of picking. Field heat should be removed immediately after picking by washing with cold water. NEVER NEVER PUT STRAWBERRIES IN A PLASTIC BAG - YOU WILL GET JAM!

To conserve limited moisture and better fight the weeds we began planting our strawberries on plastic mulch in 2008!

LARGE GROUP POLICY (15+ people):

Thank you for your interest in bringing your large group to our small farm. Large groups need to make an appointment with us at least one week prior to your planned arrival so that we may properly prepare.

We are a small family farm that primarily has families and individuals visiting to pick fruits and vegetables for their own needs. We have neither picnic facilities nor playground. We work hard to produce some of the best fruits and vegetables you've ever tasted. That requires an atmosphere of orderliness, perseverance, concern and respect for the environment in which the farm exists.

Because large groups can be disruptive with respect to our regular customers, we usually set aside a group area so that your group may enjoy your visit to the farm as a group. This requires some planning ahead. Because of our limited capacity, large groups arriving without an appointment may need to be broken up into smaller groups, such as individual families, or, we may refuse admission.

Like our regular customers, large group customers pick and then pay and then eat. Please eat after you've paid. If you eat in the field, we will charge a fee of $5.00 per person for each and every person in the group, regardless of age.

We would strongly encourage your group’s leader or leaders to visit us during regular business hours prior to your group's visit to determine if what we have is able to meet your needs and expectations. We are concerned that we may disappoint. With adequate planning we can reasonably accommodate groups up to 60 people.

A LITTLE OF OUR HISTORY:

2004 at South Windermere Gardens in Pictures

2003 at South Windermere Gardens in Pictures

2002 at South Windermere Gardens in Pictures

South Windermere Gardens is not our first venture in commercial horticulture. Our commercial horticulture roots go back to the 1980s at our original farm at Calmar. At that farm we produced beans, carrots and cole crops (broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage) for the wholesale market. Have a look at our history.
